Mauritius hosts the Marlin World Cup competition annually in November and currently holds the record for big marlin.
During October and the end of March or April is the best time for big-game fishing and you can expect to see yellow-fin tuna, blue and black marlin, wahoo, sailfish, bonita and various other species of fish and sharks.
Snorkeling in Mauritius
Snorkeling in the safety of the lagoon, amongst the fish and the shallow coral reefs is a very popular activity.
Most hotels provide free snorkeling gear and there are an abundance of shops that sell goggles, fins and masks. You can even get water-proof laminated cards with different species of common reef fish on for you to stay on the look out for on your snorkeling trips.

Undersea Walks in Mauritius
Captain Nemo’s Undersea Walks provides you with the opportunity to stroll on the seabed amid beautiful coral gardens and even feed fish by hand.
You are taken to a platform inside the lagoon, equipped with a helmet that provides you with fresh air piped from the surface and gently lowered into the sea. There you can verbally communicate with a professional diver that will take you on a guided tour through the lagoon.
This is safe for children over seven and non-swimmers.
